TikTok Shop Fee Guide

How TikTok Shop Fees Work in 2026

Understanding your true take-home on TikTok Shop starts with one number: the referral fee. This is the percentage TikTok charges on every completed order, and unlike some other platforms, it already includes payment processing. There are no separate transaction fees or hidden gateway charges on top of it.

For most sellers, that number is 6%.

How TikTok Shop Calculates Your Referral Fee

TikTok does not calculate your fee on just the item price. The official formula is:

Referral Fee = Rate × (Customer Payment + Platform Discount − Tax)

Customer Payment is your selling price plus any shipping charged to the buyer. If TikTok ran a promotion on your product and funded a discount, that amount gets added back into the base because TikTok still charges a fee on the full value. Sales tax is excluded from the calculation.

Here is a simple example. You sell a $35 item with $2 buyer-paid shipping and no sales tax.

Fee base = $35 + $2 = $37

Referral fee at 6% = $37 × 0.06 = $2.22

Your gross payout = $37 − $2.22 = $34.78

📝 Note

Platform discounts are added to the fee base, not subtracted. This means TikTok charges a fee on the discount amount even though TikTok funded it. This is an often-overlooked cost for sellers running promotions.

CategorySkincare (6%)
Cost of goods$8.00
Your shipping$2.50
RESULTS

Frequently Asked Questions

Does TikTok Shop charge a separate payment processing fee?

No. The referral fee is a unified charge that already covers payment processing. US sellers do not pay any additional transaction fee on top of the referral fee. This is one area where TikTok Shop is simpler than platforms that itemize gateway fees separately.

Is there a monthly fee to sell on TikTok Shop?

No. TikTok Shop has no monthly subscription fee, no listing fee, and no setup fee. You only pay when you make a sale.

What happens to the referral fee if an order is refunded?

TikTok returns the referral fee to you, minus a Refund Administration Fee. This fee is 20% of the original referral fee, capped at $5 per SKU. It is non-refundable regardless of whether the return was the customer's fault or yours.

Does the referral fee apply to shipping costs?

Yes. The fee is calculated on the total amount the customer pays, which includes any shipping they paid. If your customer pays $5 for shipping, that $5 is included in the fee calculation base.

What is the New Seller Promotion?

New sellers who complete onboarding and make their first sale within 60 days receive a 3% referral fee for their first 30 days of selling. After those 30 days, the standard category rate kicks in automatically. Toggle on "New Seller Promotion" in Advanced Settings to see your actual take-home during the promo period.

What about sales tax?

Sales tax is excluded from the referral fee calculation. TikTok Shop handles sales tax collection automatically for most US states, so in most cases you do not need to enter anything in the sales tax field. The Advanced Settings include it for sellers who want to model specific scenarios.

Can I use this calculator for UK TikTok Shop?

Not yet. This calculator currently covers US TikTok Shop fees only. UK TikTok Shop uses a different fee structure, including a 9% referral fee that took effect in September 2024. We are working on adding UK support and other markets including Southeast Asia. Share your feedback using the link in the footer if you want to be notified when other markets launch.

Does this calculator work for FBT (Fulfilled by TikTok) sellers?

Partially. This calculator covers the referral fee accurately for all sellers. FBT fulfillment fees are not yet included because the rate card depends on product weight, dimensions, and order quantity. To account for FBT costs, enter your estimated fulfillment cost per order in the "Your shipping cost" field. A dedicated FBT calculator is planned for a future update.

How does TikTok Shop compare to Amazon FBA fees?

TikTok Shop's 6% unified referral fee is lower than Amazon's referral fees, which typically range from 8% to 15% depending on category. However, the true cost of selling on TikTok often includes affiliate commissions of 10% to 20% to drive traffic, which can bring the effective cost of sale closer to Amazon's level. TikTok's affiliate cost is variable and optional, while Amazon's fees are fixed and mandatory.

When does TikTok pay out my earnings?

Standard sellers receive payment approximately 15 days after order delivery, provided no refund or return request is open on that order. The minimum payout threshold is $1 USD. Sellers with a higher Shop Performance Score may qualify for faster settlement windows.

Are these fees accurate for 2026?

Yes, to the best of our knowledge. This calculator uses TikTok Shop's published US fee structure as verified from official Seller Center documentation in May 2026. TikTok may update fees at any time without notice. Always verify current rates in your Seller Center before making pricing or sourcing decisions.
